History of Youth Bocce:
 

Mission Statement:

To support over 400 athletes with special needs in the GTA and York Region. Rooted in trust and complete dedication, we use the game of Bocce to promote participation, socialization and a sense of community for our athletes.

  • Founded in 1994
  • Provides an autumn-winter bocce program
  • Hosts the largest bocce tournament in Canada
  • Hosts a complimentary annual Christmas Banquet for its athletes, volunteers and sponsors.
  • Offers bursary awards for special financial needs participants
  • Organizes pilgrimages with small groups of participants. Visited Pope John Paul 2nd in 2000, in Rome Italy, the holy shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, in France, in 2002, the Lago Maggiore and the Holy Shrine of Our Lady of Oropa in Piemonte Italy, in 2006 and included the visit to the Holy Land in 2013 and walked in the Footsteps of Jesus.
  • Youth Bocce is a private organization and it is not government funded. All events
    are made possible with the support of many committed sponsors that purchase advertisement space in the Youth Bocce Magazine.
  • Youth Bocce Canada hosted the first International Bocce Tournament in 2010 and the second International Bocce Tournament in 2015.

2005 Special Olympics

On May 17, 2005 Special Olympics Ontario sanctioned the sport of bocce for athletes with mental disabilities and became an “associate partner” with Youth Bocce Canada. We can now participate in regional, national and international bocce tournaments under the umbrella of Special Olympics Ontario and Special Olympics Canada.

  

Audience with Pope Benedict XVI

Youth Bocce Canada organized a Journey of Faith to the Vatican and on Wednesday, August 8,2007 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI granted us a private audience. Kneeling down to kiss his hand and receiving a special blessing was: Julian Teofilo, Rafael Navascues, Daniel Sivac, Anthony Iacobelli, Angelia Nolis, Christopher Nolis and Lee Prioriello
